Dr. John Snow and McKenna Andrews wrote and designed the Mexican Birds Domain of Mexican Fish. Throughout the website, there are countless contributions from many esteemed photographers whom we cannot thank enough for sharing their work and knowledge.

Dr. John Snow is the main administrator of Mexican-fish.org and its domains. He holds degrees in Chemistry from Earlham College, Middlebury College, and the University of California, Davis. His deep passion for fishing has made Mexico his second home since 1998. A series of events, beginning with a three-day trip to Cabo San Lucas, sparked his interest in fish identification and the teeming marine life of the Mexican waters. He ventured to learn more about website design and research documentation, and soon managed the scientific aspects of Gene Kira’s website, MexFish.com. In 2017, Gene encouraged me to venture out on my own, leading to the creation of Mexican-fish.com.

Since 1998, Dr. Snow has increased his time in Mexico to about 40% of the year. He has made more than 400 round trips from the greater San Diego area to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, via San José del Cabo International Airport, one round trip to La Paz airport, and three round trips from Tijuana International to Loreto International.

McKenna is a recent graduate from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated with an environmental science degree in April 2024 and plans to work full-time in environmental consulting and continue to work on the bird domain of Mexican Fish for as long as it takes to finish all of the bird write-ups. Growing up in Minnesota, she has always had a deep connection with the outdoors and a passion for animals. From exploring the landscapes of the southwest to volunteering at local humane societies, her love for nature and wildlife has always shaped what she wanted to do in her future career. Environmental science opens the gateway to learn how to preserve and protect the natural world which means so much to her.

When she is not working or studying, McKenna is usually outdoors hiking, camping, or hammocking with her favorite book. She has been trail running since she was 14, completing the Afton Alps 25k in Minnesota six times. While living in Phoenix, she escaped the valley’s desert for Flagstaff or Sedona at least twice a month to hike. Mars loop trail, Fisher Pt. Trail, Marg’s Draw, West Fork (great flat trail for running!), and Mt. Humphreys.

For the past three years, McKenna has worked in event planning and hospitality at Rise Uptown Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. The hotel industry honed her skills in customer service, communication, and teamwork, but also gave her the travel bug. Seeing so many people from all around the world every day sparked a catalyst to travel and see more natural wonders in other areas of the country and the world. McKenna is moving to the East Coast in the Fall of 2024 after a summer at home in northern Minnesota fueled by her desire to see more of the country and dive deeper into environmental science. Every region of the country has unique environmental challenged and opportunities, and McKenna is eager to learn and contribute knowledge and passion to the field.
