The Russet-crowned Motmot, Momotus mexicanus, is a member of the Momotidae Family of Motmots. They are small in stature. In Mexico they are found in the coastal regions within the Pacific Slope from Culiacan, Sinaloa, south to Guatemala at elevations below 1,900 m (6,200 feet). From a conservation perspective the Russet-crowned Motmot is currently considered to be of Least Concern with stable, widely distribution populations. They are found in subtropical dry forests and in subtropical and tropical moist lowlands. They primarily consume small invertebrates and seasonally available fruits.
