The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Amazilia tzacatl, is a member of the Trochididae Family of Hummingbirds. They are small in stature. In Mexico they have a limited distribution being found within the Atlantic Slope from Veracruz to Belize in the States of Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo at elevations below 1,850 m (6,070 feet). From a conservation perspective the Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is currently considered to be of Least Concern with stable, widely distributed populations. They are found along forest edges and in gardens in humid environments. They primarily consume nectar with their diet supplemented with small insects.
