The Slaty-tailed Trogon, Trogon massena, is a member of the Trogonidae Family of Trogons. They are mid-sized in stature. In Mexico they are found in the coastal regions within the Atlantic Slope from Veracruz to Campeche at elevations below 600 m (2,000 feet). From a conservation perspective the Slaty-tailed Trogon is currently considered to be of Least Concern with stable, widely distributed populations. They are found in tropical lowland evergreen forests and tall secondary forests. They eat arthropods and seasonal berries and fruits as available an an occasional lizard.
